Cover Guys

I just heard the Equinoxe 7 extended cover version by rfoshaug on You Tube and I really enjoyed it.

By the way, be sure that nobody will try to take out your dedicated work again..

Thank you all.

Side note from Thomas: Clément DSP is getting married, so he will probably not produce any new cover before long. Still, check those out, they're impressively precise. Orient Express, Calypso part 2, Chronologie part 6,
Magnetic fields part 3 (third leg),
l'Ouverture and
Oxygene part 8)

Here's a little video I edited together for a good friend of mine in Denmark.. it's a 3D sculpture of the Oxygene 30th anniversary cover...

The theme at 6:30 is really excellent and fuse perfectly with the spirit of Arpegiateur. It's a big "honour" for this guy to be recognise here.

I read a topic on audiofanzine yesterday (a Roland D-50 topic in fact;), and it is known that Jean Michel's fans are of the most meticulous when they cover their master.

Great job by rfoshaug!

Wow, this cover is awesome! I really enjoyed it, especially now, when my mom's gone (she went to France...) and I feel lonely. I love to listen to your music at moments like this.

I saw that cover a while back. The guy does very well with covering your music. Equinoxe 7 is my favorite of his.. it's also my favorite from you. So maybe I'm biased? Either way, he has talent. The comment about Jarre fans being meticulous is very true as well. I've noticed a lot of people strive to perform the best cover they can, while at the same time trying to keep to the original pretty much. The same applies to myself when I play pieces from your music.

There is a lot of covers/fans on Youtube.. it surprised me when I first noticed. A lot of the videos are quite good as well. Without Youtube, probably a lot of that music would remain little heard. You really have a supportive fan base.. in fact, I have not noticed any other artist that people cover more than yourself on Youtube. If you haven't seen them, http://youtube.com/watch?v=ydI_yjP8LSk and http://youtube.com/watch?v=gBMgbZqzVzs are also really good covers. Probably my favorite covers of my second favorite song. :)

I have just been listening to this cover and I really enjoyed it, I will have to go back and listen to the original Equinoxe, but all credit to rfoshaug, he has done a briiliant version of your song Jean Michel.

Yeah sure, it's a nice cover (I like the guy's Oxy 2 more though).

But hey, why not mention other people with notable performances as well?

Wouldn't it be fair to commend them as well?

1) Per Kristian's Overture

2) Equinoxe 7 by Studio F

3) Equinoxe IV by Gattobus

4) Chronologie 4 by Grandmoff and friends

5) Calypso 2 by Felipe Paez

and many many more...all impressive performances.

I also remember JMJ told us he'll pick 3 of the covers and do sth special with them :) Is that still on?

Dear Jean Michel!
I am big fan of you from Moscow. I do remember your spectacular show in 1987 - this was my dream to be at your concert and I was happy to be there. Thank you for a great night!
I can't express my feeling that all this new technologies/internet changed the way we communicate and I can write to my favorite composer directly on his blog. Just unbelievable how close we are today! Your music has some spiritual effect for me – whenever I tired or in bad mood – 20-30min of listening to your compositions give me so much energy that I feel myself like a newborn. The energetic is amazing. I always wished to play your music and this spring my dream comes true. I found one French musician, who is also big fan of you – you can see his covers here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ouletente and his web-site http://www.olavier.com/. And he not just playing your music, but also creates “styles” for his Synth. This styles lets others to play your music and do our own cover versions. I bought my first electronic instrument just to play Oxygene and Equinoxe ;) and use his styles.
I am really wish that you give kind of master-class to all your fans how trying to get the same sounds out of their keyboards – amateur musicians or a music fans can’t afford to buy Moog Modular, but can play on his Yamaha, Korg or Roland keyboard and try to make the same sound as you do. For example - I’ve seen such instruction on the forum http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=451&sid=e6438f949cd55bb0a21c73bd83e64063 and there is a rumors that maestro Jarre is the author of this patch manual.
If you some days share some of the instructions about how to create patches sound like yours it will be a big help for a fans around world. Looking forward to see you once again in Moscow!

A great cover, of course.

I think it's easy to find great COVER BOY in the net. In WWW.JEANMICHELJARRE.ES you can find the 5 years old JARRE REVESTIDO project, with about 40 cover versions from JARRE's music.

Hey, MR. JARRE, another covcer contest like the "Téo & Téa" remix one???? C'monn, do it now!!!!

Sean McManus a dit…

That's a great cover. Is it a cover of an extended version by JMJ, or has it been extended/improvised at the end by the performer? Where was the original extended version released?

Jorge Jorquera a dit…

Surely JMJ spend some time searching covers like this. Is a great surprise to see how his work remade-by-others, is commented by the artist himself. Good for the artist and for JMJ

By the way, this blog is gettin' better every time. Good luck Jean Michel! and hope you're happy with latest news coming from Colombia

Hola

Thank you for mentioning my video on your blog, Jean Michel!!

Arranging, performing and recording your music is something I have enjoyed a lot. After uploading these videos to YouTube, I have been surprised by the number of people who have watched them, and by the number of positive comments I have received, so by sharing the music it has become even more fun.

To know that you have watched the video, enjoyed it, and even commented on it in your blog is a great honor for me. For years, I have enjoyed your music (discovering your music was actually the reason why I became so interested in keyboards, synthesizers and music in general), and to know that you have enjoyed my interpretation of it is very nice. I don't think I'm good enough at the English language to describe just how nice a gesture I think this is.

Although I have to disagree with you when you call it "my dedicated work", both because first of all most of it is your work (maybe in time I'll have the courage to perform some of my own musical creations on YouTube - we'll see, but Equinoxe is definitely yours), and secondly because the bit that I have done (playing and improvising and just having a great time) is so fun that it can't be considered work. ;-)

I just want to thank you for this attention. You are a world-class artist that has performed in front of multi-million strong crowds, you have sold tens of millions of albums through more than 30 years, and still you take the time to listen to amateur cover versions of your work and comment on my Equinoxe video on YouTube. This shows that you care about your fans, and it also tells something about you as a person, I think. :-)

As a side note to the comment made by Sean McManus, the extended improvised part is created by me (but inspired by "Arpegiator", another of Jarre's great songs). So Jarre has never played this version of Equinoxe 7 - however, feel free to do so if you wish, Jean Michel... ;-)

So thank you, Jarre, not only for showing me this attention, but for creating the music in the first place!!

:-)

Fan of Jean-Michel Jarre for a very long time, i wanted to celebrate his work and the release of Oxygène 3d DVD. Rediscovering the timeless quality of Oxygène, i've redone Oxygène 2007 version little by little, adding the "Prélude" and the "Variations". This ended up being a truly complete tribute.

Spiracula (Oxygene 1976-2007)

http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=CfTyaIzyYXM

Over the years the metaphysical and physical content of 'OXYGENE' never stopped to feed my musings and imagination, being itself a breathing canvas coloured with irrational glimpses of life and death.

With this painting I tried to focus my pictorial delirium on the core itself of the 'OXYGENE' theme, not just to celebrate the anniversary of an universal masterwork, but to highlight the progress of a self-consumption of the Earth's life. An ecological distress, already allegorized by Jarre's soundscapes like a romantic regret for the lost harmony between humans and nature. A disease whose more evident symptoms will be the lack of drinkable waters and the over-heating of the planet.

In my medianic vision the Earth will be reduced to a dry globe of crackled matter, whose only treasure will be the antarctic continent, the last giant reserve of 'OXYGENE'. During the days while I was finishing this picture, scientists discovered similar reserves of ice in the veins of the planet Mars, a prefiguration of the possible future of our terrestrial realm. May this image be just a poetic warning and not a spooky prophecy.

My deep gratitude to Jarre for his mystical inspiration

Bonjour Jean-Michel,

Bonne continuation.

Dear Jean Michel Jarre,
Your music was the first music I buyed when I was in young. Your music reminded me about my childhood... I started doing some experiments with electronic music and after years I looked back and I like what I did. Between us there was a "conflict" regarding a misunderstand. I did a strange semicover of your Oxygene 4 an year before your new Oxygene release. Someone from Dreyfus didn't understand my point of view and threat me with a lawsuit. Anyway... I can explain to you my vision regarding my SemiCover of Oxygene (it's all about a full polluted atmosphere, poluted not only regarding air, but also regarding sound, images etc...). That is why your wind sound from the begining of Oxy 4 is replaced in my track with an Airplane Sound, and my instrument are distorsed most of the time. http://www.wat.tv/audio/oxygene-zero-apvt_apvv_.html this is the track if you like to hear it. This is my gift to you and I never pretended money or anything for it ... how the guy from Dreyfus misunderstand. This track was designed as a gift for the 30th aniversary from Oxygene release...Unfortunately I didn't have any oportunity to contact you. I heard you will come in Romania (my country). I wiil try to go at your concert in Bucharest! IAll the best!
PS: If you want to hear a romanian artist from 80's - very original and very good at electronic music check this:

Hi,

I started listening your master pieces of music when I was 7 years old. Today I am 30 and I am still waiting something like "Novae 1" and even better "Supernovae 1"...

Something more that the super-duper remix of "Oxygene" or "Equinoxe"; something really new, something that; once more; could start again a new age of music/show, as you did 20 years ago. Only a few people on this doomed planet can do this, could you do it again, for us?

Cheers,
Pr Jingles.

Hi!

My name is Ivan, and I'm from Croatia. I'm listening to Your music since I've become conscious of myself. About 2 years ago or so, when I made a good computer configuration for me, I started to make some music similar to Yours. Now I have two questions for You: will You ever make a concert in Croatia, and where can I send to You my pieces of music? I want to hear Your opinions about it.

Best regards,

Ivan
